Ozone Therapy

Detailed information

What is Ozone Therapy?
Ozone is a triatomic form of oxygen (O₃). It is the more active form of oxygen. When ozone breaks down, it releases a free oxygen atom and an oxygen molecule (O₃ = O₂ + O). The word “ozone” comes from Greek and means “smelling.” It is formed in the atmosphere due to the effect of ultraviolet rays and electrical discharges on oxygen.

Ozone is a natural protective factor that protects life from ultraviolet radiation. Due to its strong oxidizing properties, ozone is 16.5 times more active than oxygen, which helps to enrich the body with oxygen more effectively.

In ozone therapy, medical ozone is used. The ozone-oxygen mixture contains 0.05%–10% ozone and 99.5%–90% medical oxygen and has strong therapeutic and preventive effects. Under the influence of ozone, erythrocytes can bind and transport oxygen up to 10 times more efficiently, which is why the blood becomes brighter red after treatment.

Modern medicine uses ozone therapy as a natural, drug-free physiotherapeutic method. It improves overall body function, supports treatment effects, and helps prevent disease, slow aging, and improve general health.

When introduced into the blood, ozone activates biochemical processes, improves liver and kidney function, reduces toxins, cholesterol, and excess glucose, improves microcirculation, and enhances oxygen delivery. As a result, fatigue decreases, sleep improves, memory and concentration increase, and overall well-being improves.

Ozone therapy also increases resistance to environmental stress factors and has antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal, and antiparasitic effects.

Ozone Therapy in Pregnancy
It improves appetite, sleep, and reduces fatigue and anxiety. It may positively affect anemia, toxicosis, chronic infections, and fetal development, and supports better adaptation of newborns and increases lactation.

Methods of Ozone Therapy
Depending on the condition, different methods are used: intravenous ozone-saline infusion, major and minor autohemotherapy, subcutaneous, intramuscular, rectal, vaginal, intra-articular injections, and topical applications with ozonized water or oils. Treatment plans are individualized based on age, weight, and disease stage.

Ozone therapy may also be combined with plasmapheresis for enhanced therapeutic effect. Patients with related complaints may apply to Medera Hospital.
